The Latino Center for Leadership Development strongly condemns President Trump’s decision to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)

Ending DACA will have long-term implications for the United States and the 800,000 individuals that have continuously contributed to the growth of our country

Dallas, TX – President Trump’s decision to terminate DACA places thousands of lives in jeopardy and risks the fate of America’s economic and political stability.

From its inception, the Latino Center for Leadership Development (LCLD) has recognized the potential of, and has worked with and for, undocumented youth who arrived in this country as children and have only known the United States as their home. In cutting these children’s American dream short, this also signals a massive economic blow with over $460 billion lost from state and local taxes, growth, and added cost of any deportation enforcement.

“As a business leader and philanthropist, I acknowledge the value these young, hard-working individuals offer and the damage that repealing DACA holds for economic prosperity and public safety. Our undocumented community needs to know they are not alone. It is vital we take collective action. Write letters, make calls, and place pressure on Congress to fix our broken and inhumane immigration system,” expressed Mr. Jorge Baldor, Founder of the LCLD.

“Our representatives need to show that we are not criminals, we are professionals, we are people who keep communities alive. We are here to live alongside you and build a better future for our communities,” shared Ms. Gabriela Castillo, LCLD DACA Professional Network Participant.

“With DACA I have been able to accomplish my dream which was to get an education, become a professional in the U.S., and give my family hope,” added Ms.Castillo.

Despite the termination of DACA, there are tangible options to protect undocumented individuals. Most immediately, the LCLD asks you to contact your members of Congress and demand they support The American Hope Act. While this act is not a panacea, it is a step in the right direction. Furthermore, the LCLD urges our leaders to strive for long-term comprehensive immigration reform that is inclusive of the diverse undocumented community. The LCLD understands that the benefits of undocumented individuals are boundless and will continue to support and advocate for the security and protection of our undocumented community.
